Board Member Makes Connection to Get Caregivers Free Tickets

The Florida Kinship Center founded in 1998 by Dr. Strozier, Director, and another faculty member, received a special gift from someone who knows a bit about kinship caregiving himself. Joe Tomaino, one of the Center's Board members, is a primary fund-raiser for the Department of Athletics at USF.  Joe ( who is raising 3 grandchildren) asked his department for a donation of 200 tickets to the recent USF-FAMU football game so that the Florida Kinship Center could donate them to some of the tremendously deserving grandparents and other relatives who are raising Tampa-Bay’s children.

In the photo, Dr. Strozier is giving 20 tickets to kinship caregiver, Ms. Troylen Mills.  Ms. Mills, a caregiver herself, also runs a support group for other grandparents and other relatives raising children.  Thanks to the Florida Kinship Center and the USF Deptartment of Athletics, many kinship caregivers and the children they raise enjoyed a fantastic Saturday as they cheered on USF’s Bulls!
